Adire Fabric

African printed fabrics including Ankara and Adire come in an array of vibrant colours and designs. Many of the motifs have specific meanings and traditional patterns are passed on through the generations, with new additions regularly added. We select these fabrics to create unique grid and strip patchworks.

Adire is the African equivalent to Batix. A 100% cotton fabric patterned with a wax and dye technique which originated in Java, Indonesia – but has travelled around the world and been influenced by the representation of the art forms of its new manufacturers.

In Nigeria, the Yoruba use a cassava flour based paste as a substitute for the wax in the resist method of the manufacturing process.
